Treatment of dry mouth

BioXtra ACBS approved for dry mouth associated with radiotherapy or sicca syndrome.

Apply as required, apply to gums and tongue.

Apply as required, apply to gums and tongue.

Salivix pastilles can be considered in patients unable to tolerate chewing gum. Should not be used in patients with their own teeth as can cause demineralisation of teeth and pain in mucositis due to acidic preparation. Can be used for symptomatic treatment of dry mouth.

Oralieve can be used for any condition causing a dry mouth.

1 spray as required, on the inside of each cheek, gums and tongue.

Licensed for use in dry mouth in Sjögren’s syndrome.

Pilocarpine
Pilocarpine 5mg tablets

1 tablet three or four times daily.

Prescribing Notes:

  • Dry mouth can be relieved in many patients by simple measures such as frequent sips of cool drinks or sucking pieces of ice. Saliva stimulants e.g. sugar-free fruit pastilles or sugar-free chewing gum are preferred to artificial saliva substitutes. Saliva stimulants should not be used if the salivary duct is blocked.
