Treatment of Paget’s disease
Risedronate sodium
Risedronate sodium 30mg tablets

30mg daily for 2 months, course may be repeated if necessary after at least 2 months. Take with a full glass of water on an empty stomach at least 30 minutes before breakfast and other medication (e.g. calcium supplements). Stand or sit upright for at least 30 minutes and do not lie down until after breakfast.

Zoledronic acid
Zoledronic acid 5mg/100ml infusion bags

Refer to product literature.

Restricted to use in patients intolerant of oral bisphosphonates or when zoledronic acid is unsuitable.

Neridronate (Nerixia) Abiogen Pharma, 25mg solution for injection, Specialist Use Only [Unlicensed Medicine] 

Dose: As per specialist, 25mg by intramuscular injection weekly for eight doses then stop.

Prescribing Notes:

  • There is evidence to support a one-off infusion of Zoledronic acid 5mg as a treatment for Paget’s disease. This can suppress biochemical markers of bone turnover for five years or more.
