Prescribing Notes:
- Sevelamer carbonate sachets can be used as an alternative to tablet formulations of sevelamer in patients unable to swallow tablets.
- Sucroferric oxyhydroxide (Velphoro) is an option for patients who are not suitable for treatment with calcium phosphate binders, or have tried other phosphate binders with limited success.

1-11 months: initially approximately 120mg 3-4 times daily, adjusted according to plasma phosphate levels.
1- 6 years: initially approximately 300mg 3-4 times daily, adjusted according to plasma phosphate levels.
6-12 years: initially approximately 600mg 3-4 times daily, adjusted according to plasma phosphate levels.
12-18 years: initially approximately 1.25g 3-4 times daily, adjusted according to plasma phosphate levels.
Suitable for children when they can swallow tablets whole, initially 1 tablet 3-4 times daily. Must not be chewed.
Prescribing Notes:
- Phosphate binding agents should be taken immediately prior to food, or with feeds in younger patients to bind phosphate in the food.
- To aid compliance, alternate products can be tried.
