Treatment of hypophosphatemia
Sodium dihydrogen phosphate
Phosphate Sandoz effervescent tablets
Neonate: 1mmol phosphate/kg/day in 1-2 divided doses.
1 month - 4 years: 2-3mmol phosphate/kg/day (max 48mmol) daily in 2-4 divided doses, adjusted as necessary.
5-7 years: 2-3 mmol phosphate/kg/day (max 97mmol) daily in 2-4 divided doses, adjusted as necessary.
Prescribing Notes:
- One phosphate Sandoz tablets contains 16.1mmol phosphate.
- Smaller doses can be given by giving the correct proportion of a dissolved tablet. Dissolve one tablet in 16ml water to give approximately 1mmol/ml solution, give dose and discard remaining solution.
- Dose can be taken as a supplement in breast milk - caution advised as solubility in breast milk is limited to 1.2mmol in 100ml if calcium also added, contact pharmacy department for details.
