The place in therapy is directed by a dermatology specialist prescriber experienced in the management of the condition, use is in line with relevant local or national guidance.
  • Methoxypsoralen (methoxsalen) and UltraViolet A light (PUVA) is used for a number of different skin conditions.
  • Refer to specialist guidelines for phototherapy treatment.
  • For more information, refer to the patient information leaflets from the British Association of Dermatologists: Oral phototherapy, Topical phototherapy.
  • Methoxsalen in conjunction with ultraviolet A light (PUVA) phototherapy is to be used for psoriasis when topical therapies and conventional phototherapy have proven insufficient and before consideration of systemic treatment/immunosuppressant therapy.
  • Oral methoxsalen to be used preferentially if suitable/indicated.
  • Methoxsalen gel is to be used when oral systemic equivalents are not indicated.
